A Tale of Two Countries (Tarina kahdesta maasta) website provides user contribution spaces where users can participate online and contribute text, images, and files to add their own stories and memories of British-Finnish relations.

User contributions are clearly distinct from the official archive materials and information provided by the Finnish Institute in London (later referred as “the Institute” and its partners. The user contributions are collected with “Share your memory” (Kerro tarinasi) online submission form and displayed on “Gallery of Memories” (Muistojen galleria) web page.

By making user contributions, or by registering, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. We may update these terms from time to time. If you breach these terms and conditions, The Finnish Institute in London may erase or change your contributions either temporarily or permanently without notice.

Limitation of liability

The Institute cannot be held responsible for any violations of any law arising from any user generated content contained on any third party community space or any use, reproduction, or republishing of any of the information published on the third party community spaces.

The Institute will handle your personal details, including your real name and email address, in accordance with our Privacy Policy. We cannot accept any liability for use by others of personal information you have chosen to make generally accessible within the user contribution areas.

User guidelines

In order to share your own memory, please

-do not upload anything that is not yours: ensure that you have the right to submit your text, images or other content and have not copied someone else’s copyright work without their permission and appropriate acknowledgement

-be factual and cite sources

-do not upload content (including links to websites and archival and bibliographic references) that is unrelated to the purpose of this site

-do not use language that is offensive, inflammatory or provocative (this includes swearing and obscene or vulgar comments)

-do not post any personal information relating to you or other living individuals (this includes, but is not limited to, names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and other contact details)

-do not impersonate or falsely claim to represent a person or an organisation

-do not make any commercial endorsement or promotion of any product, service or publication not relevant to the discussion

-do not upload content that is illegal or prohibited

-do not show nudity

-do not spam

Disclaimer

The Finnish Institute in London does not necessarily agree with, support or promote any opinion or representation within any user contribution and cannot vouch for the accuracy, completeness or fitness of any information published by users.

User contributions

The Institute moderates the user contributions, and may sometimes edit or delete submitted content.

By contributing to the Gallery of Memories you grant the Institute a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to hold, use, adapt, transmit, distribute and reuse your contributions. If you do not want your contribution to be treated in this way please do not submit them.

This permission is not exclusive and your contributions, ideas and comments remain your own and so you can continue to use your work, including allowing others to use it. We suggest you keep a copy of your own contributions.

In contributing, you indemnify the Institute against any costs arising from claims made against us for: infringement of any person’s Intellectual Property Rights; defamation; or for any other breach of any laws.

Right of review and rectification

The user may contact the Institute (info@fininst.uk) to inspect their personal information stored on the server. If necessary, the user may contact the Institute to rectify, erase or supplement personal data included in the register if it is erroneous, unnecessary, incomplete or obsolete in respect of the purpose of processing.

Notice and take-down policy

If you are concerned that you have found material on our website, for which you have not given permission, contravenes privacy laws, is obscene / defamatory and in terms of copyright law is not covered by a limitation or exception, please contact us: info@fininst.uk.

The Finnish Institute in London will acknowledge receipt of your complaint by email or letter and will make an initial assessment of the validity and plausibility of the complaint. Upon receipt of a valid complaint the material will be removed from the website or replaced with changes pending an agreed solution. The Institute will contact the contributor who deposited the material, if relevant.
