The first London correspondent of the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, Yrjö Niiniluoto, was photographed in a London bus. Niiniluoto began his post in October 1933.
The network of foreign correspondents of the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat became a valuable link for the newspaper to foreign countries. Correspondents were regularly invited to gatherings to their home country.
This group picture of the Helsingin Sanomat correspondents is from 1958 and portrays two journalists who had both been posted in London: Teo Mertanen (seated in the back row at the back) and Toivo J. Heiskanen (standing on the right). Teo Mertanen worked as the London correspondent in 1953–1956 and Toivo J. Heiskanen 1956–1962.
